Adult Fiction

Twisted Sisters

By Jen Lancaster

(Adult Fiction)

This is a wickedly funny novel about sibling rivalry.  Reagan Bishop’s life is quite satisfactory, thank you.  As a psychologist, she helps others to overcome bad behavior on a cable TV show.  Despite her professional success, her family doesn’t seem to appreciate Reagan and her efforts to help them improve their lives.  Not to mention her sister Geri, obviously her parents’ favorite child, and the bane of Reagan’s existence.  The call comes to put the “I Need a Push” show on network, kicking up the pressure.  Will Reagan fail in front of millions (including her family)? Or will she listen to the show’s New Age healer about some unconventional methods they might employ to help their guests, possibly going too far over the line?  This is highly recommended “chick lit”.   (Formats: Print; e-audiobook).

Fourth of July Creek

By Smith Henderson

(Adult Fiction)

Struggling alcoholic and social worker, Pete Snow, strives to win the trust of a backwoods boy and his paranoid, survivalist father. Meanwhile, Pete’s own family is in crisis; his teenage daughter has vanished, and his ex-wife can’t do much more than drink and pray. (Format: Print).

I Was Amelia Earhart

By Jane Mendelsohn

(Adult Fiction)

This slender volume of fiction is “written” by Amelia Earhart, the famous aviator who was lost during an attempt to make a circumnavigational flight of the globe in 1937. Also lost was her navigator Fred Noonan, a man Earhart detested. In the novel, Earhart tells the reader about herself, her dreams and her marriage to G.P. Putnam. The book intersperses Earhart’s memories with the reality of the present, after crash-landing on a small Pacific island.  (Format: Print).

Written in My Own Heart’s Blood

By Diana Gabaldon

(Adult Fiction)

Hurtled back through time more than two hundred years to 1743 Scotland, Claire Randall finds herself caught in the midst of an unfamiliar world torn apart by violence, pestilence, and revolution and haunted by her growing feelings for a young soldier, James Fraser. Book #8 in the Outlander Saga.  (Formats: Print; Book-on-CD; e-audiobook).

Pillars of the Earth

 By Ken Follett

(Formats: Print; downloadable audio book)

By Lauren Oliver

(Adult Fiction)

This is a novel about regret, choices, and secrets. It’s a ghost story, but the reader is also drawn into the family dynamics of the late Richard Walker clan. His alienated relatives descend upon Richard’s country house to finalize arrangements. But they are not alone.  Restless ghosts Alice and Sandra are observing the Walkers.  And they are experts because both of the ghosts were in the house when the Walkers all lived there, before the divorce.  Alice and Sandra know all the Walker secrets, but they both have unspoken secrets of their own. Family drama meets ghostly tale for a suspenseful story. (Format: Print)
