Fun for all ages!

The library's free 10-week Summer Reading Program encourages children, teens, and adults to read, write, create & play throughout the summer months. The more you read, the more opportunity you have to earn prizes!

This summer’s theme is: Build A Better World!  A variety of special events related to the theme will be taking place throughout the summer.

Children's Summer Reading & Learning Program

Children will each receive a Reading & Learning Log on which to keep track of time spent reading at home and other learning activities. The more a child reads, the more opportunity he or she has to earn prizes. Babies have a special reading program, too!

Each child who signs up will receive:
* A voucher for a FREE General Admission Ticket to a Mahoning Valley Scrappers game at Eastwood Field
* A FREE pass for admission to OH WOW! The Roger & Gloria Jones Children's Center for Science & Technology

For Babies up to 3 Years Old: The Tadpole Club

Children from birth to age 3 can participate in a Summer Reading Program just for them. Parents or caregivers can share literacy-based activities with young children and receive a prize especially for the little one after they complete their log. Stop by any library location to receive a Tadpole Club Log.

For Children Age 3 to those entering 6th Grade

Summer Reading Log 2017The Children’s Summer Reading & Learning Challenge will take a new format this year to encourage a daily reading habit.

Children age 3 to those entering 6th grade will each receive a Reading & Learning Log to build their way to fun and exciting prizes as they add "bricks" to build the castle pictured on the log. Kids can fill in a "brick" on their log each day they read at least 20 minutes or if they complete one of the optional learning activities.

After kids read 12 days - They can stop by their library location for a prize from the Treasure Chest!
After kids read 25 days - They can turn in their log and receive a book to keep!
Grand Prize - Kids who complete 25 days of reading will be entered in a Grand Prize drawing for a Toys "R" Us gift card or a building set!

Curiosity Cards - These activity sheets contain short, at-home math and science projects that count as learning activities on the Reading & Learning Log. Your Youth Services librarian can tell you how to add these learning activities to your Summer Reading Program!

Teen Slogan 1Teen Summer Challenge

For teens entering grades 7 - 12. Participating in the Challenge is easy - just read every day at least 20 minutes and then stop by the library for your prize! There are even bonus option activities!

The only way to earn an invitation to the After Hours Event is to complete the challenge, so don’t wait!

Adult Summer Reading Program

Adults 18 and older can participate in the Summer Reading Program, too! Simply fill out an entry slip for each book or eBook you read or audiobook you listen to during the program.

Plus, adults who attend a library event will receive an extra entry slip for the prize drawings.

Stop by any location or on the Bookmobile for a Summer Reading Program slip, read a book or attend a library event, and then turn your slip back in at any W-TCPL location for your chance to win!
