Customized help to get you started

Click here to find eBooks through OverDrive

Users may browse the library's website, check out with a valid library card, and download to PC, Mac®, and many mobile devices.

Search by title, subject, author, or format. There are hundreds of popular fiction and nonfiction titles to choose from. There are titles for adults, teens, and children, too.

Each library card can have two eBook titles checked out at once. Titles will automatically expire at the end of the lending period. There are no late fees! Titles cannot be renewed, but you can check them out again after they expire, if they are still available. You may also place holds on titles and add them to a "wish list."

Titles can be enjoyed immediately or transferred to a variety of devices, including iPod, Kindle, Sony Reader, and many others. Click here for a list of compatible devices.

To read eBooks, you will need to download the free Adobe® Digital Editions software; OR, for Kindle users, you will need to register your Kindle and create an Amazon account.

This new service, powered by OverDrive, is free for patrons with their W-TCPL library card.

About Freading

Freading is a free electronic book (eBook) download service now available to cardholders of the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library.

Freading offers library customers access to more than 20,000 titles and works on multiple mobile devices as an app. Devices that are compatible with Freading eBooks include the Barnes & Noble Nook, Apple iPad and iPhone, most Android-based tablets and smartphones, the Kobo eReader, and the Sony Reader. The Amazon Kindle does not yet support Freading eBooks.

Customers will be able to download books each week based on a virtual token system. Each W-TCPL cardholder will receive six virtual tokens per week through Freading. Each download requires one to four tokens, depending on the book's popularity and publication date. A customer's unused tokens may accumulate over a four-week period.

Books may be checked out for two weeks, and most items may be renewed once without additional tokens. Books are available to download at any time.

To download an eBook, customers can log into Freading through the library's website, then download the Adobe Digital Editions software to their reading device, create an account, then search for a title, author, or interest area and click to download.

Freading requires a W-TCPL card.

Why aren't there more eBooks?

Many publishers will not sell or license eBooks to libraries. Unlike an individual, a library cannot pay Amazon or Barnes & Noble for an eBook and then lend it out to people. We can buy a printed book from these companies, place it on the shelf, and lend it out--but digital content is being treated differently by the publishers and the companies who manage digital content licensing.

We very much want to offer these eBooks to our customers; however, some publishers' policies are preventing us from doing so. Many of the most prominent publishing companies currently refuse to sell or license eBooks to libraries.

We will continue to work to provide you with the widest selection of eBooks we can within the limitations set by the publishers.
