The W-TCPL is a sub-lending agency for the National Library Service, offering individuals the opportunity to take advantage of the free Talking Books program through the Library of Congress. After completing a special application with the assistance of Outreach staff, qualified users will be supplied with a special Talking Book player which plays “books” and “magazines” recorded at a special slow speed. Materials are sent directly through the mail. There is no postage cost to return materials.
The Mobile Library Services Department of the W-TCPL provides free monthly “lobby stops” at senior and subsidized housing units, and other specialized institutions. A collection of books and magazines is provided for check out by individuals at the stops. Residents interested in receiving materials at a monthly lobby stop should complete a Homebound registration form. A personal library card is not issued.
Service to the Incarcerated
The Mobile Library Services Department of the W-TCPL offers free monthly delivery of library materials to institutions serving incarcerated individuals in the library’s service area. This service is provided with written agreement between the correctional facility and the W-TCPL.
The Mobile Library Services Department of the W-TCPL provides and maintains free rotating collections of materials at a variety of non-library locations including nursing homes, adult daycare centers, senior housing units, and childcare providers. Such collections are provided to an agency, not to individual clients, and are delivered monthly to supplement the receiver’s existing resources.
Early Outreach Collaboration Service
The Mobile Library Services Department of the W-TCPL offers the opportunity to receive a free monthly site visit from Outreach Services and Youth Services staff at preschool and child care centers in the library’s service area. A literacy kit with a collection of books, media, toys, puzzles and other materials that support the development of early literacy skills is delivered to the site. A children’s librarian presents a story time with delivery of the kit and explains how to most appropriately utilize the kit.
