During 1990, the Howland Branch Library first began service in a Howland Plaza storefront. The library celebrated the grand opening of its new building on East Market Street in April 1998. The building sits on four acres with approximately 10,200 square feet. The building uses a geothermal heating/cooling system.
As a popular reading center, the Howland Branch Library features a small collection of reference materials. In-depth research is directed to the Main Library at 444 Mahoning Avenue NW in Warren.
Materials available at the Howland Branch Library include:
Adult/teen/children’s fiction and non-fiction books
Entertainment and educational videos, including Blu-Ray & DVDs
Large print books
Public computer workstations provide Internet access as well as access to the library's online catalog and databases. Black and white printing and color printing on a central printer is available at a fee per page (resume paper may be provided by the customer). Basic computer classes are offered at the Howland Branch Library; call the Main Library at (330) 399-8807 ext. 201 for upcoming class sessions.
Library staff can assist customers with limited computer instruction and questions. Basic computer classes are offered at the Howland Branch Library several times throughout the year. Story times and other programming for children is offered at the library; check the calendar for all events each month. The Howland Branch Library has a wide variety of children’s materials including puppets, audio books, music CDs, family movies, and CD-ROM’s.
Meeting Room/Study Room
A meeting room with a capacity of 40 adults is available at no charge. Call (330) 856-2011 for scheduling information.
Two small study rooms that can be reserved for tutoring are also available at no charge. The rooms comfortably hold two people. Call (330) 856-2011 for scheduling information.

Blood pressure screenings courtesy of the Concord Care Center are typically offered the first Thursday of each month between 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
An easy-to-use, free-standing public FAX & Scan machine is now available for use at the library. Customers can now FAX documents or scan documents and send them to their email address.
The FAX & Scan kiosk is entirely self-sufficient; customers simply lift a handset and listen to the voice prompts to use the machine.
Customers cannot receive a FAX at the library; there is outgoing FAX service and scanning only.
The FAX & Scan kiosk accepts major credit cards and debit cards only; no cash. Cost is $1.75 for the first page and $1.00 for each additional page; the charge to send an international FAX is $3.95 for the first page and $3.45 for each additional page.
Friends of the Library
The Friends of the Howland Library hold an on-going book sale in the library meeting room. The Friends meet on the first Wednesday of each month from September through May at 7 p.m. All are welcome to join.
